The show is an interesting comic tug-of-war between a saas and a bahu, carried over three generations. The story moves from the point of view of a bahu who wants to enjoy her new role as a saas, but her saas doesn’t allow her to move away from her role as a bahu.. Suppressed for years, now the bahu wants to give vent to all her stifled aspirations, and wants to do the same which her saas has been doing to her for years... But the elder saas still sees to it that her bahu doesn’t get out of her control... And so the story moves with the attacks and the counter attacks, all seen in a lighter perspective..
Will the bahu finally be able to fullfill her aspiration of becoming a saas; or she will ever remain a bahu??

Meet The Characters :

Sheela Devi is 47 years old and still regulates the strings of the house. All the members of the house abide by her rules. The kitchen is her domain which she runs with the help of a Maharaj (Cook). After an initial spell of revolt, she bowed to her Saas. She had settled for peace, since her husband Mahesh turns out to be Mamma’s boy. She is now a devoted bahu – with no arguments of any sorts. But, Sheela secretly harbors a deep grudge against her Saas for having tamed her, and extinguished the fire within her. Now she is looking forward to become a Saas. She is very much aware of the dual role she would have to play – that is of a Saas and a Bahu at the same time. As she has been highly dominated by her Saas, she is all set to eagerly pass on her grievances to her bahu.

Saraswati is a 71 years old Saas and Sant Kumar’s wife. She’s the woman behind Sant Kumar’s great success as a business tycoon. Having completed 52 yrs of marriage, she has never been able to understand her husband ever. She regulates the house with her own set of principles and rules, and dominates her bahu Sheela Devi. The very day her bahu enters the house, she declares it to be her last working day, and demands every work to be done by her bahu. Thereafter she takes up reading Bhagwad Gita which never ends and she keeps on reading the same for a stretch of 28 years and still going on. The bahu Sheela Devi is extremely terrorized by her.

Sonia is a 21 year old strong headed girl, having ambitions of her own. She loves her husband immensely, and has deep respect for her Saas and Sasoor. Her gradual respect for Saas turns to revolt when she realizes that her mother in law has become a monster-in-law (a murder-in-law) reason being, of her mother in law Saraswati and the way she was treated as a bahu. However, since she gets along well with Saraswati she is not able to understand who is at fault.

Nagendra is the eldest son of Mahesh & Sheela. He is 27 years old, and has just got married. Mahesh is a hot tempered and impatient young man, but very loving towards both his parents and his wife Sonia. He helps his father Mahesh in the family business, and gets trapped in the tug of war between his wife and his mother.

Jiya is the youngest daughter of Mahesh & Sheela Devi. She is a character from the 3rd Generation. She has been a witness to the mutiny between the Saas’s and the Bahu’s over the years. Experiencing it all, she has reframed her dreams accordingly. She has happily decided to remain unmarried and has vowed never ever to fall in the so called trap of Saas Bahu. She prefers to remain alone all throughout her life.

The show is based on a story of two friends, Vicky and Ram who fear their looming bankruptcy after having lost a hefty sum of borrowed money in the share market. The plot revolves around their numerous attempts to recover the money and return it to their lender - Lala Pathan. They see a ray of hope when Vicky learns of the inevitable death of his wealthy grand father who leaves him an old bungalow. Vicky realizes that the only way he can clear his debt is by selling off his inheritance. Together with his friend Ram, he decides to renovate and sell off the house at a profit. To keep the cash coming in they start using the bungalow as a guest house.

But things are not really as simple as they seem. They soon find out that they – Vicky, his girlfriend Ria and Ram, are not the only residents of this huge lodge. With an eerie presence felt at all times, they are staying with none other than a family of ghosts!
The ghost family has made this their home ever since they drowned in the nearby lake while on their way to a wedding. Still in their fancy clothes, they decided to seek shelter in the villa and over the years built a decent relation with Vicky’s grandfather. After his death, the ghost family decided to continue their loyalty towards him and promised the old man that they will never harm any living relatives of his family.

But, when they realize Vicky’s ultimate intentions they fear the loss of their only comfortable haunt. Now this struggle between the Humans and the Bhoots to retain the bungalow continues with a new fight everyday. Neither the Bhoots budge nor the Humans. And we have a hilarious episode to watch every time. SAB brings forth complete comical chaos for its viewers as each of the characters try to out-do the other for their personal interests.

An element of surprise also exists in the show with the presence of yet another supernatural being known only as ‘Wo’. This invisible and powerful being runs a chill down anyone’s spine as it lurks around the bungalow and ends up killing the guests who stop at this lodge.

‘Bhootwala Serial’ is a first of its kind where Ghosts will be creating a laugh riot for the first time on Indian television. The show has all the ingredients to not only scare you to the bone but also jolt your funny bones simultaneously. The look of the show is a brilliant mix of the today and the era gone by. The bhoots portray the ‘sixties look’ since they meet their troubled death during that decade while the humans sport a present day modern look making the visual contrast a treat to watch.

About The Characters:

Vicky (Rajesh Kumar) A smart and confident young man, Vicky has been hit badly by the share market. He is trying to get out of the mess by turning his inherited old bungalow into a guest house and selling it off in order to recover some money and clear his debt. His girlfriend Ria and friend Ram accompany him in the haunted villa to help him with his goal.

Ria (Shital S. Mavlik)Vicky's girlfriend, Ria has an unusual fancy for horror movies, horror novels and haunted houses as she finds them very exciting and adventurous. Unlike any other girl, she screams when she is happy. This ‘shriek’ of hers leaves the poor Vicky and Ram thoroughly terrified and confused as they don’t know if she’s scared or happy. Each time, she immediately clarifies her emotion by saying, "Main darr ke nahi, khushi se cheekh rahi hoon".

Ram (Dhruv Singh) Vicky's friend, Ram has borrowed money from Lala Pathan and passed it on to Vicky to invest in the stock market. They lost the money in the unpredictable share market and are now being chased by their lender Lala Pathan. Ram runs away from the city along with Vicky narrowly escaping Lala Pathan’s clutches.

Amarnath Bhandari (Kiku Sharda)The head of the Bhoot Family. He is a very vibrant personality who has seen romantic luxuries during his young days. Every situation that he comes across as a ghost reminds him of some or the other romantic moment that he had experienced in his youthful age. This always irritates his unmarried son Kamlesh. Amarnath Bhandari's only focus now is to see to it that Vicky does not succeed in his plan. He keeps formulating plans on how best to haunt the customers who visit this guest house.

Kamlesh (Anup Upaddhyay)Amarnath's unmarried son, Kamlesh prefers to call himself Kamuk Kamlesh. Like others in his family, his focus is also very clear and that is to get married. He constantly keeps complaining to his dad about his unmarried state and proudly adds to it by saying that he can make every heart melt, but sadly it is rather difficult for a Bhoot to get married.

Kusumkali (Manju brij nandan Sharma) Bhandari's wife, Kusumkali is very upset with Bhandari as he is to blame for their untimely death. The agenda of this ghost’s life is to cook as many varieties of novel dishes as possible. Even in the gravest of situations, she keeps worrying about what she can cook. Amarnath goes nuts reminding her that they are dead now.

Katili (Katili)The unmarried daughter of Amarnath and Kusumkali, Katili has got her goal set right. Her passion of dancing exceeds all limits and keeps dancing whenever and wherever she can. Her screaming laughter brings an instant chill to the Bhoot family which actually leaves the audience in splits.

This story evolves around happenings in "Gokuldham Co-operative Society" and covers topical issues which are socially relevant.The show predominantly revolves around 'Jethalaal' (Dilip Joshi) who is an uneducated Gujarati businessman.
Your 'Taarak Mehta' (Sailesh Lodha), is his neighbour. 'Jethalaal' finds a friend and philosopher in 'Taarak Mehta' and often goes to him for advice whenever he is in trouble.
Jethalaal's family includes his simpleton wife 'Daya Ben' (Disha Wakani) and a mischievous son 'Tapu' (Bhavya Gandhi). Tapu is a menace and a constant source of trouble to all the members of Gokuldham. They have often warned 'Jethalaal' to reform 'Tapu' or else be prepared to leave the premises. Lost hopes of being heard by his son pushes Jethalaal' to call his father 'Champaklal' (Amit Bhatt) from the village. This was his great idea of leashing some control over the mischievous Tapu. The opposite happens and the grandfather joins hands with the grandson to make life a roller coaster troublesome ride for Jethalaal.

Meet The Characters

Jethalaal is an uneducated Gujarati businessman who believes that humans are born only to mint money. He is a typical Gujarati 'baniya' twice before entering Jethalaal's constant worry is his son Tapu, who is very mischievous. Apart from earning money, controlling Tapu becomes his mission in life. To action the same he calls his father Champaklaal from the village. Instead, hell breaks lose as his father Champaklal joins hands with Tapu, encouraging him in all his mischievous pursuits.

Dya is a simple housewife. She desperately tries to keep up with the norms of the modern society but fails to do so.She lives under the misconception that her son Tapu is the most innocent child in the entire world and thus ignores people's complaints against her son.She spends most of her time making peace between Tapu and Jethalaal. A sensitive person at heart she gets tears in her eyes at the drop of a hat.

Champaklaal is Jethalaal father and lives in the village. He believes in the simple fact that Good Indian Healthy Food is incomplete without Desi Ghee.(Indian Butter).He has a loud personality and knows how to take advantage of situations taking excuse of his age. Champaklaal purposely confronts people around him and is a perfect example of "Pachpan mein bachpan"(act like a child when you are 55). He shares a love/hate relationship with his son Jethalaal and teams up with Tapu causing menace in the society. He rescues Tapu from Jethalaal's wrath. To spice it up he compares Tapu's childhood to Jethalaal's. Champaklaal is a proud grandfather of Tapu and thus extends his complete support to the mischievous lad.

Tapu is Jethalaal's mischievous 10 year old son - a very sweet, innocent, smart yet very naughty, hyper active and ultra modern kid. He has the knack to take his father Jethalaal for a roller coater ride with his antics. He is the 'Hero' of his team and a 'Villain' of the Gokuldham Co-operative Society where all the members are troubled by the activities of this menace of a boy. He is extremely attached to his grandfather Champaklaal and has a soft corner for Sonu who is Mr. Bhide's daughter.

He is a calm, composed and a famous journalist who writes a humorous column for a weekly magazine. A well known name in the world of literature'Taarak Mehta' is the narrator of the happenings in Gokuldham Co-operative society. He introduces all the characters to the viewers. He is an intelligent man and can have endless discussions on a topic which can end up irritating his beloved wife 'Anjali'. The man is very fond of giving advice & loves solving Jethalal's problems. Jethalaal trusts Taarak Mehta and finds a philosopher and friend in him. Taarak Mehta on the other hand is fascinated by the way Jethalaal the gujarati businessman lives his life.

Mrs.Anjali Mehta is a young, sophisticated and modern woman. She believes in creating something useful out of the waste and thus experiments extensively perusing this habit. She is a dietician by profession and controls Taarak Mehta's diet. Jethalaal frequent visits to meet Taarak at their house often upset her.

Roshan Sodhi a transport business and also runs a Mandap Decorators service as an ancillary business to support his wife. Mr. Sodhi is a very short tempered and aggressive man. He hates 'Tapu' for breaking the glass of his window unlimited number of times.

A Parsi lady married to a Sardar defines Roshan who also shares her name with her husband. She is a sweetheart and very co-operative. She innocently commits a mistake but never realizes it which turns into a funny light moment. Both Sodhi and Roshan always have communication issues because of the language barrier. The irony is that she runs a Marriage Bureau.

Mrs.Roshan is a Parsi lady she married to a Sardar defines Roshan who also shares her name with her husband. She is a sweetheart and very co-operative. She innocently commits a mistake but never realizes it which turns into a funny light moment. Both Sodhi and Roshan always have communication issues because of the language barrier. The irony is that she runs a Marriage Bureau.

Gogi Sodi is cute little boy who speaks Parsi but is a Sardaar wearing a small 'pag'.He is the friend of Gokuldhaam Society.

Mr.Bhide is a teacher by profession he runs a small coaching centre in his apartment. He likes to raise trivial issues and immediately steps back when it stretches beyond the purview of being trivial. His biggest worry is that his daughter 'Chutki' is 'Tapu's' classmate. He has a constant fear that one day his daughter will elope with Tapu and Jethalaal's residence will be her new home. This thought sends shivers down 'Mr. Bhide's' spine which is why 'Tapu' and 'Mr. Bhide' are always at each others throats.

Dr. Haathi is a fat and healthy man who keeps falling off to sleep in the middle of conversations. All the society's residents go to him for medication. He speaks very little and softly. The entire 'HAANTHI FAMILY' are a healthy bunch of happy people.

Babita is stylish and has a different taste. An 'A- GRADE' junior artist she gets easily upset if anything happens to her child Goli. She wants to see her son on television and wants him to be a superstar.

Sonu is only daughter of 'Mr. Bhide', 'Chutki' is a very sweet child who is not only well mannered but cultured as well. She is an intelligent and systematic girl. She goes to school on time, attends all her classes, comes back home, plays for a little while, does her homework, prepares her bag for the next day, prays to God and goes to sleep. Unfortunately her father's insecurities irritate the little girl.Though Tapu and she argue a lot they get along equally well. Mr. Bhide's constant effort that she ties Tapu a Rakhi goes down the drain.
